Rumba

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 6 years

Although Rumba is not the typical hunting dog for Andalusia, our friends in Huelva were almost sure that she was "sorted out" and abandoned by a hunter in October 2020, like many others. The beautiful ebony princess was found in an area where stray animals often appear, and Rumba was extremely sad and lost. While Rumba has already developed very well in the animal shelter and presented herself as a calm, peaceful, and very mature female dog, she has only recently shown what a great girl is inside her, in her foster home. Rumba is really calm and prefers to observe everything from a distance, but she seeks contact with both two- and four-legged beings on her own and enjoys any affection to the fullest. She is clingy, follows her foster mother everywhere and is grateful for every petting and every loving word. She consistently avoids hustle and stress. She likes it quiet and polite and cannot be convinced that rowdy running around could also be a fun mental stimulation for her - but she is really clever and learns new commands in no time. In the car, she looks amazed out the window and enjoys every ride, not least because a walk usually follows, which our relaxed lady also greatly appreciates. Rumba still has to learn how to stay alone at home without missing her people too much, but she will master this with a little time and practice. Since our princess cannot cope well with quick movements and noise, we do not want to place her with small children. We can easily imagine Rumba as a single dog, as she enjoys the undivided attention of her family, but she has no problem with other dogs and can also move in well with an existing four-legged companion. If you love long walks with lots of sniffing time, but also love cozy evenings cuddling with the best of all snuggling partners, you should seriously consider when you can arrange a date with our black beauty. Rumba is already longing for you!

About Rumba

What life with Rumba looks like

Rumba is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rumba, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rumba?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rumba on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rumba if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rumba already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rumba isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rumba and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
