Rupi

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Critical rules: Rupi, Rupi, our shelter, this breed, our area Rupi is a mixed-breed male dog born in January 2020. He has three legs and is friendly with humans and enjoys cuddles, making him suitable for children as young as teenagers, provided they are calm and dog-experienced. A barrier-free home with a garden is sought for Rupi. The dear 2020-born dog Rupi is affectionate and can be given to children from teenage years onwards. He is also compatible with other dogs. However, teenagers in the same household should be calm and dog-experienced, as Rupi has special needs: Rupi unfortunately has only three legs and requires regular chiropractic treatments, especially for his lumbar spine. He also experiences occasional muscle spasms, which are likely caused by his hydrocephalus. Rupi takes Pexion twice daily and occasionally shows mild orientation issues, has difficulty finding his food, etc. – these issues occur only in phases, and then he displays precise behavior again. Rupi is familiar with a harness and can be on a leash in various ways – sometimes very calm, and at other times, he can be quite anxious. Regarding house training, Rupi still needs some practice. Due to his physical impairment, we are looking for a quiet and barrier-free home with a garden for Rupi with patient, understanding people.

About Rupi

What life with Rupi looks like

Rupi is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Austria in Vienna.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rupi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rupi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rupi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rupi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rupi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rupi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rupi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
