adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Rusty has found a home! His story: Rusty is a little heartbreaker and simply soooo adorable, with his gleaming black fur adorned by delicate, rosy brown accents. His sweet bat ears, which frisk joyfully in the wind, make him unmistakable—and simply irresistible. Like his two siblings, Rusty has already experienced a lot of the bad stuff. Together, they and another sibling were found, deeply marked by a Parvo illness. While one of the little ones sadly didn't make it, Rusty, Chipsy, and Rasmus bravely fought for their lives—and won. Today, the three live in the shelter in Fantanele. At about 7 kilograms and 40 cm shoulder height, Rusty is delicate in build and will likely grow to be medium-sized. He is a gentle, affectionate boy who still looks a little shy at the world. Not a daredevil, more of a quiet observer. Rusty prefers to take things slow and takes the time to carefully explore his surroundings. He gets along well with other dogs. Whether he gets along with cats, we still don't know. What Rusty needs now is a home full of patience and warmth. People who show him how wonderful a dog life can be—while giving him space to unfold step by step. They know that for him, there will be many firsts, and they will take the little mishaps in stride. And they understand that Rusty will soon enter puberty, with all the challenges that come with it. A dog training class that works with positive reinforcement would be a wonderful support for Rusty's development. He just wants to be a normal young dog—play, snuggle, learn, and give a lot of love. Maybe you are the exact person Rusty needs in his life? Imagine how he might one day lie beside you, his paw gently touching yours, and look at you with his loyal eyes—full of trust and gratitude. Then you'll know that every single step has been worth it. Rusty is ready for his journey to happiness starting in mid-November. He will be microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas and will of course bring his EU pet passport. Rusty is ready. Ready to start anew. Ready to love. Ready to give his little big heart away—maybe to you? Many thanks to Martina B.! You gave Rusty his name! As of 07.11.

Vielen Dank Martina B.! Du hast Rusty seinen Namen geschenkt! About Rusty

What life with Rusty looks like

Rusty is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rusty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rusty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rusty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rusty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rusty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rusty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rusty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
