Saffron

Border Collie · Female · Puppy · 6 months

Saffron is a friendly, affectionate girl who loves spending time with both people and other dogs. She would really enjoy having some sociable, playful doggy friends to help keep her entertained. Being a young Collie, Saffron has plenty of energy and is looking for a family who can provide her with appropriate exercise alongside lots of opportunities to use her clever brain. She particularly enjoys exploring fields on a longline and having a good run around. She can be worried by fast moving traffic, so she'll need access to quieter walking areas away from busy roads. Saffron loves her toys and enjoys playing fetch and tug with her people, although she's also quite happy entertaining herself. She's a real foodie too and will happily work for her treats, with peanut butter and beef skin chews being particular favourites! As well as physical exercise, Saffron will need plenty of mental stimulation to keep her busy, such as enrichment activities, puzzle toys and training games. She already knows how to sit and lie down and would love to learn lots more tricks and skills with her new family. Although Saffron is an energetic puppy, she'll also need her family to help her understand when it's time to switch off. Plenty of quiet time and puppy naps will be important to make sure she doesn't become overtired. If you're looking for a bright, playful puppy who will keep you on your toes and are ready to continue helping her learn about the world, Saffron could be the girl for you! Saffron is a gorgeous 5-month-old Collie looking for an active home where she can continue to learn and grow. She could potentially live with another playful dog who would enjoy having a puppy around. A dog of a similar size would be preferable, as Saffron can be worried by larger dogs. She cannot live with cats or small furries and, due to her interest in chasing, she will need a home away from livestock. She can be left for a couple of hours once she has had some suitable exercise. Her new family will also need to keep reminding her about her housetraining as she continues to mature. Saffron travels well in the car when travelling in a crate. She can pull a little on lead at times. Saffron could live with older teenagers and would be happy in a reasonably busy household. She will need someone who has the time and enthusiasm to continue her training, with puppy training classes likely to be a great way of helping her build her skills and confidence.

About Saffron

What life with Saffron looks like

Saffron is a small puppy/kitten border collie dog waiting at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe in Ilfracombe.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Saffron, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Saffron?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Ilfracombe handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Saffron on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Saffron if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Ilfracombe will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Saffron already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Saffron isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Ilfracombe early rather than rehoming privately; they know Saffron and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
