Tilly

Border Collie · Female · Young · 2 years

Tilly is a gorgeous, people-loving girl who is friendly with everyone she meets. She absolutely loves being the centre of attention and would happily spend her day enjoying fuss and cuddles, including curling up on your lap whenever she gets the chance! She's also an active girl who loves getting out and about. Tilly enjoys walks where she can take her time sniffing and exploring, as well as having the opportunity to run around in secure enclosed fields. Once she has built a bond with someone, she has shown good recall off lead, although this will need to be built up gradually with her new family while she gets to know them. Tilly has a playful side too and absolutely loves her toys, particularly balls and rope toys. She could happily play fetch for ages and would love a family who can join in with her games. She's a clever girl who already knows her sit, wait and "bed" cues and will enjoy learning more with her new family. She's also a big fan of treats and isn't at all fussy, making her very willing to work for her rewards! Although Tilly enjoys being out and about, she can become overwhelmed in particularly busy areas where there are lots of people. She'll therefore benefit from having access to quieter walking routes where she can enjoy her adventures without feeling overwhelmed. She can also be worried by sudden or unfamiliar noises, so her new family will need to be patient and help her build confidence around these. Tilly is a real social butterfly and even enjoys a pamper at the groomers! If you're looking for a fun-loving companion who adores people, enjoys an active lifestyle and is always ready for a game of fetch, Tilly could be the girl for you. Tilly is a lovely 2-year-old Poodle cross Collie who is looking for a family where she can enjoy plenty of attention, exercise and fun. Tilly cannot live with another dog and will need a family who is happy to help her continue developing her social skills. She has a strong chase drive, so she cannot live with cats or small furries, and we don't have any history of how she would be around livestock. Tilly could live with secondary school-aged children and would be happy in a reasonably busy household. She is friendly towards visitors and enjoys meeting new people, so she could suit a family who has friends and family coming to visit. She can be left for up to four hours and would suit a family who can provide her with a good balance of exercise, companionship and time to relax. Tilly can be a little worried when travelling in the car, and may whine. She can also pull a little on lead at times, but generally walks nicely.

About Tilly

What life with Tilly looks like

Tilly is a large young adult border collie dog waiting at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe in Ilfracombe.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tilly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tilly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Ilfracombe handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tilly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tilly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Ilfracombe will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tilly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tilly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Ilfracombe early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tilly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
