Saffy

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Saffy arrived at the kennel carrying a suitcase full of fears. She constantly wanted to stay close to the staff, and the initial period of isolation was therefore very tough. Saffy cried and couldn't relax. Today, she's a completely different dog. After initially refusing to lie down, she now follows the staff on walks with her tail held high and loves it when they play with her. If anyone has a free moment, Saffy is quick to appear and ask, “Shall we hang out?” She’s gentle and friendly and adores cuddles and snuggles. Saffy had a rough time with the larger dogs at the railway station. As a result, she was initially afraid of many of the kennel’s dogs, so they found a great mentor for her—HH Pepe, who is one of the kindest dogs you could imagine and with whom she still lives. The two used to take their walks together, and whenever Saffy felt anxious, she’d look both at Pepe and at her human for support. Today, she plays with several other dogs and shows that she actually thrives wonderfully in canine company. She’s also met some of the kennel’s cats and found them perfectly fine. For our lovely Saffy, we’re now looking for a forever home where she’ll never have to worry about being abandoned again. The home should be quietly situated and ideally suited to a slightly more relaxed lifestyle—though still offering plenty of interesting nature experiences. Young children shouldn’t live in the household. Saffy would like to live with a kind canine companion, as she enjoys being in good company so much. In her new home, she’ll also have a role model—a dog who embodies presence and security. Please note that Saffy’s background remains unknown. She must never be pressured in situations where she feels insecure, around new people, or in unfamiliar environments. Background: Cernavoda railway station is a typical “dumping spot” for unwanted dogs. Perhaps because there’s a lot of foot traffic here, people assume someone might take the dog in—but that never happens. Little Saffy was dumped here in March, ten months old. The station staff saw the car stop and push her out. Saffy was terrified and ran around crying. Days passed, and she desperately tried to make contact with...

Lilla Saffy dumpades här i mars, 10 månader gammal.

About Saffy

What life with Saffy looks like

Saffy is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hundhjälpen in Stockholm.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇪Adopting from Sweden

Swedish shelters require an adoption application and home visit. Animals are chipped, vaccinated, and sterilized. Cross-border placements within the EU use the standard pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Saffy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Saffy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundhjälpen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Saffy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Saffy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundhjälpen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Saffy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Saffy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundhjälpen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Saffy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
