Sam

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 6 months

Sam was born around 06/2026 and stands about 38 cm tall (as of 07.10.2026). Together with his siblings, he was found abandoned in a barn near a forest. There were originally seven puppies, but three of them presumably did not survive their encounter with wild animals. Sam and his siblings were lucky and were rescued. Today they are housed in a municipal animal shelter. Thanks to dedicated animal welfare volunteers, a place was made for them there, even though the accommodation capacity is limited. Now, hopefully, a new chapter will begin for Sam. Sam is a sociable young dog who gets along well with other dogs. As is only fitting for a puppy, he wants to discover his world, gather experiences, and step by step get to know life as a family dog. He needs people who will show him, with patience, love, and empathy, how lovely a sheltered everyday life can be. Time in a shelter can of course never replace a real home, which is why we very much hope Sam will soon find a family of his own. For Sam we are looking for loving people who enjoy accompanying a young dog as he grows up. He needs plenty of time for play, learning, and rest, as well as patient training that gives him a sense of security. A home where he may belong and be loved as a family member would be his greatest happiness. Who will give Sam his chance at a happy dog's life? After his difficult start, he should finally get to experience what it is like to feel safe and to have people by his side whom he can rely on. Perhaps his happy ending is waiting with you! We look forward to your inquiries! He has been examined by a veterinarian, dewormed, treated for fleas, microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, and tested for Mediterranean diseases including leishmaniasis, and he comes with an EU pet passport and a Traces certificate. He is still too young to be neutered. The adoption fee is €595.

DE·Show original

About Sam

What life with Sam looks like

Sam is a puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Tierrettung International e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sam, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sam?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierrettung International e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sam on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sam if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierrettung International e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Sam already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sam isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierrettung International e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sam and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
