Adopt Sam

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 8 years

Sam: a whole handsome and sweet boy of 8 years old who is on the lookout for a golden nest! Sam came to us because he simply couldn't stay in his current home situation anymore due to private circumstances. That's why he's here, and we're helping him find a golden nest. Sam is just a sweetheart! He sometimes needs a bit of time to get used to new people, but once he's with you, he enjoys all the attention to the max! He's also super sweet, and one of our interns had to do a health check for her internship, and he let her do it all without a fuss! Sam has always lived alone and loved it. We currently don't have any other cats in the shelter to see how he reacts to them, so we can't make an assessment yet. Sam knows no dogs and that's why we won't place him with them. In the past, he lived outdoors, and we think he'll also enjoy taking a fresh air break from time to time after getting used to it. So, for Sam, we're on the lookout for lovely people who will welcome this sweetie and really enjoy his sweet personality!

About Sam

What life with Sam looks like

Sam is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Dierenopvang Koningen in Netherlands.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sam, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sam?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenopvang Koningen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sam on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sam if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenopvang Koningen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sam already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sam isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenopvang Koningen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sam and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
