Adopt Radel

Fox Terrier · Male · Adult · 5 years

Radel: a cheerful and active Fox Terrier, just over 5 years old, looking for a golden bed. Radel was officially from Spain, where he lived in a house with many other Fox Terriers. They were used here for breeding, but eventually it was decided to take them all to the animal shelter. Recently, he and his brother came to us, and we are helping him find a golden bed. Radel is a very cheerful guy and likes everything! He likes people, attention, walking, everything! He gets out of bed every day on his good leg and is enthusiastic about what life brings him. Radel loves going for walks and doesn't really walk particularly charmingly on the leash. However, he may not be used to walking regularly, so it's logical that he enjoys it so much that it seems too slow for him. Radel has always lived in a large group of dogs and probably once lost a fight. He has a big scar on his neck, and we can imagine that it was a matter of life or death for him. There is no hair growing there anymore, and we expect that this will not change. Moreover, Radel has completely moved on from this, because that's just how he is! However, this area may need to be covered on sunny days due to sunburn of the skin. Despite this, Radel is still social with dogs! He lives here with his brother and would probably enjoy having a dog brother or sister in his new home. Radel finds cats a bit too appealing, so we don't place him with cats. Although Radel is friendly to everyone, we are looking for a home for him with older children or without children. For example, an unexpected strong hug seems a bit strange to him. He does nothing and just lets it happen, but he may not be familiar with it and needs to realize that it is done out of love and nothing bad happens. Therefore, young children may be less suitable for him. For Radel, we are looking for people who will give him a lovely, active life! People who will guide him a bit more, but will warmly welcome him and enjoy being with and of this cheerful guy!

About Radel

What life with Radel looks like

Radel is a small adult fox terrier dog waiting at Dierenopvang Koningen in Netherlands.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Large scar on neck with no hair growth, needs sunscreen protection on sunny days

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Radel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Radel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenopvang Koningen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Radel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Radel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenopvang Koningen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Radel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Radel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenopvang Koningen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Radel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
