Sam en zijn broertjes Pipin en Frodo werden gered op een stormachtige dag in Noord-Macedonie. Net voor een zware regenstorm losbarstte, hoorde een vrouw hun hulpgeroep op een bouwplaats, waar ze achteloos waren achtergelaten. Ze waren nog maar een paar maanden oud en zouden de daaropvolgende overstromingen zeker niet hebben overleefd. Dankzij haar snelle ingrijpen kregen ze een tweede kans. De drie boertjes zijn daarna opgegroeid in een opvanggezin waar ze uitgroeiden tot gezonde, energieke en lieve jongens. Beide katertjes zijn gecastreerd, gechipt en gevaccineerd en zijn klaar om te verhuizen naar hun forever home. Sam is een actief, jong katertje. In mensentermen zou hij waarschijnlijk een adhd’ertje genoemd worden. Hij kan genieten van een dutje op de bank, lekker tegen iemand aangenesteld, maar als hij wakker is, is hij bezig. Duur speelgoed heeft hij niet nodig. Hij speelt het liefst met iets wat hij zelf heeft gevonden. Een sluitclipje van een broodzak, een touwtje, een propje folie, Sam ziet overal speelgoed in. Zijn favoriete speelgoed is toch wel een haarelastiekje. Hij sjouwt het elastiekje de hele kamer door. Hij is een goede eter, zonder zichzelf te overeten. Hij is slim genoeg dat hij snel oppikt dat wanneer hij iets goeds doen (bv krabben aan de krabmat) en daarvoor een beloningssnoepje krijgt. Sam kan prima binnen wonen, maar een afgeschermd balkon of tuin zou erg gewaardeerd worden. De afzetting moet wel echt in orde zijn want hij is tenger gebouwd en past door een klein gaatje. Sam kan samen geplaatst worden met zijn broertje, Pipin. Hij kan ook alleen geplaatst worden maar dan moet er wel al een actief kattenvriendje zijn waar hij lekker mee kan spelen en die niet onder de indruk is van de hoeveelheid energie die Sam heeft en hem een weerwoord kan geven. Hij is ook heel sociaal naar de hond in het opvanggezin, dus een hond in huis zal geen enkel probleem zijn.
