Samson & Smilla

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 3 years

Samson and Smilla are approximately three years old and have spent their entire lives together. Now they had to leave their home and are understandably still a bit unsure. What gives them stability in this new situation is each other. The two are very attached to each other and should therefore absolutely stay together. But Samson and Smilla are not only special because of their close bond. Both live with congenital malformations on their front legs. Their front paws are severely curved and therefore significantly different from a healthy cat. In Samson's case, both front legs are affected, in Smilla's case, one. During the veterinary examination, it was found that the radial bones are probably missing from birth. In Smilla's case, there is possibly the possibility to stabilize the affected leg through an operation. Whether and to what extent such a treatment is sensible and possible must still be clarified in more detail. How well the two cope with their special legs should therefore also be closely observed in their new home. They need people who are willing to deal with their special needs and possibly adapt their environment accordingly. A barrier-free home can be important in this regard. Depending on their mobility, for example, easily accessible resting places, easily accessible food and water stations, low entrances and a possibly safe environment may be useful. Stairs or high climbing opportunities should also be considered accordingly. Which adaptations are actually necessary will be determined individually for the two. Despite their malformations, Samson and Smilla are above all two loving and very attached cats. They give each other security and should also continue to go through life together. We are therefore looking for people for the two who not only open their hearts but are also willing to adjust to their special physical needs. A quiet home, possibly without unnecessary dangers and with people who keep an eye on their mobility and their health status, would be ideal. A loving foster home that can imagine taking Samson and Smilla in first and figuring out what they need together with us would also be a great help. Just write to us. As soon as we receive your message, we will contact you as soon as possible. Please understand that we can't always respond immediately. Please give us one to two days for a response.

About Samson & Smilla

What life with Samson & Smilla looks like

Samson & Smilla is a large young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierschutz Euskirchen e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Samson & Smilla, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Samson & Smilla?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Euskirchen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Samson & Smilla on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Samson & Smilla if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Euskirchen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Samson & Smilla already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Samson & Smilla isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Euskirchen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Samson & Smilla and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
