Adoption requirements Adoption process Request this animal now! Adoption requirements Adoption process Samu is urgently looking for a loving home or a foster place. Sometimes life is not fair, and that is exactly what the young dog is experiencing right now. His owner is sick and can no longer take care of him as he needs. For Samu this means that his world has changed overnight and he is now looking for people who can give him support and show him that he is not alone. The approximately 1.5-year-old mixed breed dog is a beautiful dog with a very special aura. His tricolor coat and shortened tail make him unmistakable, but his true nature only shows when you give him some time. Samu initially meets strange people uncertainly. He barks because he doesn't know how to assess the situation, then withdraws. In these moments, he especially needs understanding, patience, and someone who gives him security. Once he has gained trust, he shows his true heart: friendly, playful, and full of joy for life. Samu is currently in an intense developmental phase in the middle of puberty. He is full of energy, curious, and wants to explore the world, but also tests his limits. At the same time, it is often difficult for him to calm down. Therefore, it is especially important to have people who guide him lovingly, give him structure, and help him learn to relax. Samu wants to please, but needs a clear and reliable leadership to which he can orient himself. He feels most comfortable outdoors. Nature, new smells, and exploring his surroundings are exactly what excites him. Walks where he can sniff and discover are just as important for him as mental stimulation. Nose work, search games, or joint training help him to tire out and then relax. He can particularly relax when he gets something to chew on, which gives him additional security. Samu is well-matched with other dogs. He likes to play and tends to be more reserved than dominant. He is generally friendly towards people, but due to his youthful, exuberant nature, he can quickly become too much for small children. Samu already knows being alone for several hours, but tends to nibble on things without supervision. Samu is not a dog that simply walks along. He has edges and corners, as well as uncertainties, but above all, incredible potential. He is looking for people with heart, patience, and experience who are willing to accompany him on his journey, not give up on him when it gets difficult, and show him how beautiful a shared life can be. Whoever gets involved with Samu will not get a perfect dog, but a real lifelong friend - one who wants to learn, wants to develop, and deep down just wants to belong. Maybe Samu is waiting for you exactly. Samu is about 55 cm tall, weighs around 24 kg, is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and has an EU pet passport. His

About Samu

What life with Samu looks like

Samu is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Samu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Samu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Samu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Samu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Samu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Samu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Samu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
