Sanya

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 7 years

Sanya is a gentle female dog estimated to be born around July 2019, with an approximate shoulder height of 60-70 cm and weight of 40-44 kg. She was found in a Romanian euthanasia station along with her puppies, still wearing her collar. We explain how dogs end up there and more in our animal welfare FAQ. There are many signs that she once had a home, but after giving birth to her puppies, it seems no one wanted her anymore. Instead of comfort, the gentle dog faced bars. Sanya is not a dog who seeks attention; she greets people kindly and enjoys any affection given to her. When being petted, she gently places her paw on the person's arm as if asking for this beautiful moment to last longer. This small gesture often speaks more than a thousand words. She is new at the shelter. Our caregivers take time to learn about each dog and assess them. We will add to this profile once we know more about her character. You can still fill out an application for this dog. Sanya doesn't seek adventure; she seeks someone who shows her she will never be left behind again. A quiet home full of closeness and comfort would be the greatest happiness for the gentle dog. We hope to find people who understand that rescue dogs bring a certain history with them. We can never predict how a dog will react to life in Germany at the shelter, so we look for people with patience, perseverance, and goodwill. But one thing is sure: adopting instead of buying not only gives an animal a second chance but also actively decides against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by your side. In love yet? Send us your application! Adoption If you are considering adoption, first read the placement process. All dogs are vaccinated, chipped, dewormed, flea-treated, and neutered before departure (except for puppies under 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs over a year old also undergo testing for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, feel free to message our placement team.

About Sanya

What life with Sanya looks like

Sanya is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sanya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sanya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sanya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sanya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sanya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sanya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sanya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
