German Shepherd-mixed-breed female dog Jule was a ca. August 2002 born German Shepherd-mixed-breed female dog. She originally came from Bosnia and arrived at the Tierlebenshof on December 14, 2013, together with Marianne. Jule was a puppy in Zenica (Bosnia) when she was picked up by a child from the street. Out of concern that she might be caught, she was confined to a pen. She spent her entire life there, being cared for by an elderly woman. After the woman moved to a care home, no one was left to look after Jule. Once a week, her food was brought to her. Taking in Jule at the Tierlebenshof involved some risk. Due to her years in the pen, she had no contact with other dogs and no regular direct contact with people. After a period of getting used to people, Jule became very friendly. We could sense that she longed for affection and human closeness and enjoyed it. For Jule, moving to the Tierlebenshof was like moving to a new planet. Everything was new and exciting, so she was nervous at first. After a short time, she had no problems with the male dogs at the farm. With the female dogs, it took a bit longer. As long as no female dog came too close, everything was fine. She rarely provoked a fight. However, Jule could not understand the "dog language" for a long time. When certain dogs played with each other, she often could not properly assess it and sometimes interpreted it as an attack. She needed some time to learn the communication between dogs and could then lead a normal dog life at the Tierlebenshof. On July 26, 2018, Jule passed away at the age of approximately 14-15 years. Jule had narrowly escaped death more than once. Shortly after her arrival, she survived a serious emergency operation due to a uterine infection. Over the past few years, she suffered three strokes. Each time, she fought and pulled herself back up. For some time, a neurological problem had also developed: Jule sometimes could not stand up alone or fell after a few steps. But she still had more good days than bad. On July 25, nothing worked anymore: Jule could not stand or walk without help, she refused food, and eventually also water. We could only let Jule go with dignity.

Schäferhund-Mischlingshündin Jule war eine ca. im August 2002 geborene Schäferhund-Mischlingshündin. Sie kam ursprünglich aus Bosnien und kam am 14.12.2013 zusammen mit Marianne auf den Tierlebenshof. Jule wurde als Welpe in Zenica (Bosnien) von einem Kind von der Straße geholt. Aus Sorge, dass sie eingefangen werden könnte, wurde sie in einen Zwinger gesperrt. Dort verbrachte sie ihr gesamtes Leben. Eine alte Dame versorgte sie. Nachdem diese in ein Pflegeheim ziehen musste, war niemand mehr da, der sich um Jule kümmerte. Einmal die Woche wurde ihr Futter gebracht. Der Entschluss, Jule auf dem Tierlebenshof aufzunehmen, beinhaltete schon ein gewisses Risiko. Durch ihr jahrelanges Zwingerleben hatte sie keinerlei Kontakt zu anderen Hunden und auch keinen regelmäßigen direkten Kontakt zu Menschen. Menschen gegenüber war Jule nach einer gewissen Eingewöhnungszeit sehr freundlich. Wir konnten spüren, dass sie sich sehr nach Zuneigung und menschlicher Nähe sehnte und diese genoss. Für Jule war der Umzug auf den Tierlebenshof wie eine Umsiedlung auf einen neuen Planeten. Alles war für sie neu und aufregend, dementsprechend nervös war sie am Anfang. Nach kurzer Zeit hatte sie schon keine Probleme mehr mit den Rüden des Hofes. Bei den Hündinnen dauerte es etwas länger. Solange ihr keine Hündin zu nahe kam, war alles gut. Selten provozierte sie einen Streit. Allerdings konnte Jule lange mit der „Hundesprache“ nicht viel anfangen. Wenn gewisse Hunde miteinander spielten, konnte sie dies oft nicht richtig einschätzen und wertete es manchmal als Angriff. Sie brauchte noch etwas Zeit, bis sie die Kommunikation zwischen Hunden gelernt hatte und konnte dann ein ganz normales Hundeleben auf dem Tierlebenshof führen. Am 26.07.2018 verstarb Jule im Alter von geschätzt mindestens 14-15 Jahren. Jule war dem Tod mehr als einmal von der Schippe gesprungen. Kurz nach ihrer Ankunft überstand sie eine schwere Notoperation aufgrund einer Gebärmuttervereiterung. Im Laufe der letzten Jahre erlitt sie 3 Schlaganfälle. Jedesmal kämpfte sie und rappelte sich wieder hoch. Seit einiger Zeit kam ein neurologisches Problem hinzu: Jule konnte manchmal nicht mehr alleine aufstehen oder fiel nach ein paar Schritten um. Aber immer noch hatte sie mehr gute als schlechte Tage. Am 25.07. ging dann gar nichts mehr: Jule konnte überhaupt nicht mehr ohne Hilfe aufstehen oder gehen, sie verweigerte Essen und zum Schluss auch Wasser. Wir konnten Jule nur noch in Würde gehen lassen.
