Adopt Schuschu

Domestic Shorthair · Female · Senior · 11 years

The 11-year-old cat Schuschu is unfortunately already the second time with us at the animal shelter and now wishes for a forever home where she can truly belong. Schuschu is a rather insecure and sensitive cat who needs a lot of time to build trust with people. She does seek the proximity of her trusted people from time to time, but often the contact becomes too much for her quickly. Then she clearly shows her limits – sometimes with her claws. It is therefore all the more important to recognize and respect her signals. In contrast, Schuschu shows social and harmonious behavior towards other cats, which is why a home with a quiet, suitable second cat could be a good possibility. For Schuschu, we are looking for a quiet home without children, with people who have experience with cats, patience, and understanding for her special nature. Her new owners should be ready to give her all the time in the world – even if that means she may never become a classic snuggly cat. A free run in a safe environment is also important for Schuschu, so she can unfold herself at her own pace and create retreat spots. Do you think you are the right person for Schuschu or would you like to get to know her better?. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Schuschu

What life with Schuschu looks like

Schuschu is a medium-sized senior domestic shorthair cat waiting at Tierschutzverein für Tirol in Innsbruck.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

Note from the shelter: Requires patient, experienced owners; needs outdoor access in safe environment; can be defensive when overwhelmed

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Schuschu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Schuschu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein für Tirol handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Schuschu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Schuschu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein für Tirol will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Schuschu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Schuschu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein für Tirol early rather than rehoming privately; they know Schuschu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
