Scobby

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Scobby, a dog from Los Barrios, arrived at the shelter in August 2025. At that time, he was estimated to be around three years old. Before being caught, he had been wandering alone for several months and had survived on his own. He was very anxious and difficult to catch - presumably having survived entirely on his own during this time. The poor fellow had obviously gone through a lot before finally being safe. From the start, Scobby showed what a gentle, friendly and loving character he has at the shelter. He quickly settled in with the other dogs and gets along well with them. He is playful, affectionate and very cuddly. Scobby enjoys human company and always looks forward to attention, petting and kind words. He also loves walks. On a leash, he walks beautifully - he doesn't pull at all and walks calmly and relaxed. Cars, people or other dogs that meet him don't bother him. Going for a walk with him is a real joy. He would gladly stop for a treat or sniff the grass extensively with his nose - something he obviously loves. Unfortunately, these walks are rarely possible due to the lack of volunteer helpers. Most of the time Scobby spends over 23½ hours daily in his kennel and is only allowed out for a short break on a small, bare concrete yard without any activity. Despite this, Scobby remains an incredibly cheerful and loving dog. In April 2026, Scobby participated in our adoption event and did an excellent job. He remained calm and balanced all day and clearly enjoyed the fact that a volunteer helper took care of him exclusively. He was happy to meet visitors who wanted to get to know him and greeted everyone friendly and relaxed. Some visitors even took him on short walks around the event grounds. Scobby also mastered this with aplomb and accepted everything calmly. Although the event was large and lively - with many people, music, food stands and children playing - Scobby coped wonderfully with all the impressions. Only driving in a car gave him some anxiety and unsettled him. Otherwise, he showed himself from his best side throughout the day. Update June 2026: In June, Scobby was able to participate together with Donovan, Amón, Dalí and Avellana in a very special outing. As part of the project "Visitas que dejan huella" ("Visits that leave traces") supported by APBA, they visited a senior citizens' home in Los Barrios. It was a beautiful morning full of quiet moments, heartfelt encounters and real connection. The dogs gave the residents comfort and joy - many people who often spend many hours alone. Even their mere presence, a caress or a gentle encounter made a noticeable difference. But the best part was: The dogs also enjoyed this visit to the fullest. They received affection, attention and the feeling of being truly appreciated. We are incredibly proud of them - all behaved wonderfully. Now we sincerely hope that Avellana, Donovan, Scobby, Amón and Dalí will soon find the loving families they so richly deserve. Currently, the shelter is completely overcrowded with dogs like Scobby, making it particularly difficult for them to find a home. But Scobby deserves the chance to finally leave this life behind and find his own family. He has so much love to give and would be a loyal, uncomplicated and lively companion.

About Scobby

What life with Scobby looks like

Scobby is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Melampo in Melampo.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Scobby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Scobby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Melampo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Scobby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Scobby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Melampo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Scobby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Scobby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Melampo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Scobby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
