Adopt SCOTTY

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Estimated birthdate: June 2022 Short info: active, motivated, eager to learn, playful, alert, friendly, cuddly, needs experienced hands & clear guidance SCOTTY is waiting for his foster home in 01909 Großharthau bei Dresden. Current foster report: SCOTTY is a young, active male dog who loves playing and training with his human. He enjoys hide-and-seek, is happy to fetch, swims with enthusiasm, and plays excitedly with frisbee. SCOTTY is an intelligent dog who thrives on being challenged and learns quickly. He develops a deep bond with his primary caregiver and is cuddly and in need of cuddles. However, like all dogs, SCOTTY needs clear leadership, consistency, and calmness to provide structure and security, so he doesn't have to take on tasks he's not responsible for. At home, he is house-trained, alert but barks little, and accepts clear rules very well. He rides in the car happily and calmly and can stay alone in the house for long periods without causing damage. SCOTTY does not defend resources and is easily corrected by his human. In his foster home, he lives with a female dog and a cat and has integrated well here. He can already perform basic commands such as sit, down, give, stop, out, and drop objects. At the foster home, SCOTTY is intensively worked with, such as successfully completing the "medication program" like muzzle placement, opening the mouth, examining the ears, clipping nails, taking a pulse, grooming, and measuring temperature. SCOTTY is now an environmentally friendly dog who handles New Year's fireworks, Carnival activities, and even S-Bahn travel well. SCOTTY is trained to avoid and interrupt hunting. We are looking for a home for SCOTTY with people who have experience with larger dogs, are active, without children, have time for him, and can lead him with loving consistency. His new environment should be more quiet and preferably rural with a house and garden so he can burn off his energy. His new people should ideally be close to the foster home or be willing to visit multiple times and have a thorough, mutual introduction. Background information: After SCOTTY was found as a puppy on the street in Hungary in September 2022 and came to an animal shelter, he was adopted by a family with two children and brought to Germany in December 2022. He lived there for about 15 months. As a lively young dog with a few butterflies in his stomach, he likely needed more mental stimulation and both physical and mental exertion, as well as consistent and confident leadership to learn boundary-setting and impulse control. The added puberty didn't help, and the family had to realize they couldn't do justice to SCOTTY in their normal family life. So, the family reluctantly decided that SCOTTY would be happier in a more suitable environment. SCOTTY will be neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and with an EU pet passport in his new home. Do you think you could be the right person for Scotty's side and would you like to offer him a varied daily routine? Then we look forward to your message!

About SCOTTY

What life with SCOTTY looks like

SCOTTY is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pfotenretter Ungarn in Pfotenretter.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting SCOTTY, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about SCOTTY?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfotenretter Ungarn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw SCOTTY on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt SCOTTY if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfotenretter Ungarn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is SCOTTY already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if SCOTTY isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfotenretter Ungarn early rather than rehoming privately; they know SCOTTY and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
