adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Scout has found a home! His story: The poor soul is not doing well. His "master" chased him off the farm – and he must have suffered from intense pain. An infection in his mouth – now all his teeth have been removed. But Scout's suffering continues. Because an X-ray showed that he will need pain medication and supplements for the rest of his life. He suffers from diskospondylitis – an inflammation of the discs – which is unfortunately not uncommon in older dogs. Our Scout is already 13 years old – he probably won't have much time left, but we wish so much that he still gets a little bit of love – because he deserves love so much. Scout winces and pulls away when you try to stroke his back. He cries and retreats. And our Scout at the shelter is simply not doing well at all. That's why we're sending out an S.O.S.! Scout is medium-sized at 50 cm and weighs 17 kg. He walks without any problems on a leash. Scout needs a lot of rest and must not exert himself too much. Stair climbing is not for him, so he needs a place in a ground-floor apartment or a house. A dream would be a cozy spot where he can rest and dream. Cautious cuddles, gentle fur care, and slow, comfortable walks would finally bring some sunshine into his life. Scout gets along with other dogs, but one should also keep in mind that he cannot be a playmate. We don't know how he reacts to cats. Scout's luggage is packed. He brings his EU pet passport, is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. Would you like to still accompany Scout and ensure that he can have a somewhat pain-free and pleasant life in his twilight years? Thank you, Anja, for giving Scout this wonderful name and thus a little bit of hope. Many thanks, Marco B.! You support Scout with a monthly sponsorship! As of: 12.04.

Vielen Dank Marco B.! Du unterstützt Scout mit einer monatlichen Patenschaft! Stand: 12.04.2025

About Scout

What life with Scout looks like

Scout is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Scout, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Scout?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Scout on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Scout if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Scout already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Scout isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Scout and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
