Adopt Scrabble (and Jenga)

Jack Russell Terrier · Male · Young · 1 year

Scrabble and Jenga are a bonded pair of Chihuahua crosses who are looking for a calm, patient and understanding home. Both dogs are very nervous and will need significant time, confidence‑building and consistency in their new home. Jenga is slightly more confident, but both are worried by new people, walks and handling. They will need an adult‑only home that can read their body language well and give them space when needed. Their new family will need to be willing to carry on training we have put in place for them to help them continue to build confidence. Jenga has been able to make friends with the staff here, he becomes affectionate after meeting people multiple times and enjoys a gentle fuss. Scrabble needs considerably more time to build trust and form relationships. Their reactions to other dogs vary, and they are most comfortable with calm, steady dogs who respect their space. They will benefit from being steadily socialised with other dogs once they have settled into their new home. Neither Scrabble or Jenga have shown much interest in toys but this may develop once they are settled in their new home. They enjoy short sniff walks in familiar places but are unlikely, at this stage, to be hiking companions for longer walks and will need access to quieter walks close to their home. This duo has so much potential and, given time to shine, are bound to show their comical and unique personalities. About Scrabble (and Jenga)

What life with Scrabble (and Jenga) looks like

Scrabble (and Jenga) is a small young adult jack russell terrier dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Scrabble (and Jenga), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Scrabble (and Jenga)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Scrabble (and Jenga) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Scrabble (and Jenga) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Scrabble (and Jenga) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Scrabble (and Jenga) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Scrabble (and Jenga) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
