Scraps

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 11 years

Feb 2024 Scraps is a lovely GSPxLurcher nearly two years of age who is looking for an active home with lots of fuss and attention after his owner could no longer care for his needs. Another rescue who were looking after him asked us to help with this lovely boy after he needed to move quickly from his foster family after Scraps was very interested and over excited by their cat, so we won’t be placing him with a home with a cat. While in this foster home Scraps recall improved in just a few days because he was very happy following their own dogs back as they recalled and he loved having treats for coming back. He’s very eager to please and has really enjoyed the company of the other dogs, out on walks he’s very friendly towards other dogs and people he meets. He’s been very good around their 11 year old son and visiting preschool children. He’s a lovely size at around 33kg, has no medical issues, is vaccinated and entire. Scraps can be left for up to 4 hours at home alone, he happily sleeps in his crate after exercise. He hasn’t been tested around livestock so his reactions are unknown, he walks well on a lead or harness and understands, wait, sit, stay and no commands. Scraps gets very excited about his walks and trips out, he travels very well and is happy to be out and about meeting new people and going to new places. His foster family adored him and were very sad when it was decided that he should move because of the safety for the cat. Since all the upheaval in his life Scraps is showing some signs of separation anxiety, which we hope when he’s settled again will pass. Scraps is currently in the Monmouthshire area and will be rehomed with his 5 weeks free Agria Insurance and our Adoption Contract. If you feel you could give him the opportunity to live his best life, please contact us. About Scraps

What life with Scraps looks like

Scraps is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at GSP Rescue UK in United Kingdom.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Scraps, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Scraps?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. GSP Rescue UK handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Scraps on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Scraps if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — GSP Rescue UK will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Scraps already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Scraps isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with GSP Rescue UK early rather than rehoming privately; they know Scraps and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
