SEREK

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Serek (SKA) - HANDICAP - Male, neutered, born approx. 2022, shoulder height approx. 43 cm, in the shelter since 01.05.2025 - Blind - EU pet passport - Compatible with calm females and males - Walks calmly on a leash - No small children Serek is a calm, reserved dog who needs time to trust people. When he meets people he doesn't know, he initially retreats and hides in his hut. He needs someone who doesn't pressure him and gives him time to build trust on his own. Serek is blind due to an injury to his head. The optic nerves were permanently damaged, his eyesight cannot be restored. Therefore, we are looking for a calm and reliable home with patient people who can give him security and clear orientation. A confident, calm dog or female may already live in the new home. If you want to get to know Serek, don't expect him to run joyfully towards you right away. You have to earn his trust slowly. This is exactly why we want people who can give him this chance. Serek doesn't see the world - but he can learn to feel safe in it. (Shelter 10/2026)

About SEREK

What life with SEREK looks like

SEREK is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hundehilfe Polen in Dierkshausen.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting SEREK, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about SEREK?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundehilfe Polen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw SEREK on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt SEREK if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundehilfe Polen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is SEREK already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if SEREK isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundehilfe Polen early rather than rehoming privately; they know SEREK and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
