Adopt Set

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 11 years

Set – an active dog looking for his human companions Set longs for any human affection. He can hardly wait to go for walks and be at the front of the line. He shows this every day by knocking on the doors with his paw. Since he arrived at the animal shelter in Poland, he has made great progress; he loves to work and learn new things. So he can already do "sit," and despite his size and weight, his leash manners are good, and he doesn't pull on the leash. According to our Polish animal protection colleagues, he is interested in all people and can be called back easily. He also loves children very much, although he cannot gauge his weight and often greets them too enthusiastically or jumps on them out of sheer joy. For this reason, any household with children should ideally be older and more dog-experienced. Unfortunately, he does not like other dogs, so he should become a solitary prince. We are looking for an active home for Set where he can arrive and feel safe. A home with a garden would be perfect for the active Set. If you want to give a shelter dog a home and Set has caught your attention, you can already start preparing a dog bed for him. Set would be ready to claim it. Adopting a shelter dog always means taking on a special responsibility and can also be a challenge. The dogs bring a backpack full of past experiences or unlearned situations and need time to adjust to their new life. If you have serious interest in adopting Set, please contact the responsible mediator of the SALVA Dog Aid. The contact details are further below. If you do not want or can adopt a dog, we would also be grateful for the provision of a foster home.

About Set

What life with Set looks like

Set is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Set, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Set?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Set on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Set if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Set already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Set isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Set and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
