Shadow

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Shadow - a young male dog with great potential is looking for his home. Shadow is a young mixed-breed male dog who has been in the Spanish animal shelter since March 2026. Shortly after arriving, he was introduced to the female dog Maggy, with whom he now shares his kennel. The two get along very well, which speaks to Shadow's social skills and compatibility with other dogs. Overall, he has made a very positive impression so far. Since he has not been in the shelter for long, the caretakers are currently getting to know him better. So far, Shadow has appeared calm and pleasant. His first walk outside the shelter went very promisingly. Initially, Shadow seemed a bit unsure when putting on the harness and at the beginning of the walk - which is entirely understandable in a completely new situation. He visibly sought orientation from the person walking him. However, he relaxed quickly with Maggy and was able to enjoy the walk. Along the way, he readily accepted treats and pats, showed interest in his surroundings, and even splashed a little in the water. Environmental stimuli seem to be manageable for Shadow so far. Passing cars and people did not upset him, and he met other dogs calmly and positively interested. When encountering a cat, he initially appeared a bit uncertain and confused, but managed the situation overall very well. Shadow apparently already knows some basics. Commands like "sit" and "down" do not seem completely foreign to him, which could indicate that he may have lived in a household in the past and received some training (however, we do not know the extent). Nevertheless, it should be noted: even though Shadow makes a very good impression, moving into a home is always a big change. New routines, everyday noises, and close coexistence with humans often need to be consolidated first. For Shadow, we wish active people who are willing to lovingly continue his development and give him the security that a young dog needs. He has his whole life ahead of him and has excellent prerequisites to develop into a wonderful companion. Deciding to adopt a dog means responsibility over many years - time, patience, and reliability should therefore be a given. With the right home, Shadow has every chance to finally truly arrive and become part of a real family. If you are aware of what comes with adopting a rescue dog and have fallen for the shelter dog, please contact the corresponding adoption officer of SALVA Dog Help. We would also be very grateful, as well as Shadow, if you could provide a foster home. Here is Shadow's video Here is Video 2

About Shadow

What life with Shadow looks like

Shadow is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shadow, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shadow?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shadow on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shadow if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shadow already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shadow isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shadow and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
