Shana

Belgian Malinois · Female · Adult · 4 years

This Malinois crossbred dog was left after 4 years of life with her adopters, who had taken her in at the age of 8 months. Despite their investment, the situation became too difficult for them to manage. She came from a seizure by authorities and was mistreated in her first months, and she still bears the traces of this difficult past. Unfortunately, she has spent a lot of time caged or isolated in a room, which has intensified her fears. She is very reactive to her environment: dogs, cats, cars, bicycles. At home, in a calm and stable setting, she can be kind and affectionate towards humans. However, she is not housebroken. Despite this, she has a real strength: she loves long walks and hiking, moments during which she can channel her energy and calm down when well guided. This dog will need a very specific placement: experienced adopters, without other animals, living in a calm environment, ready to commit to a serious and caring support. It's a heart mission, to finally give this dog the security and understanding she has never really known.

About Shana

What life with Shana looks like

Shana is a adult belgian malinois dog waiting at SRPA Vinalmont.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shana, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shana?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SRPA Vinalmont handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shana on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shana if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SRPA Vinalmont will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shana already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shana isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SRPA Vinalmont early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shana and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
