Shanty

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 10 years

Cause incontinence. Infected with leishmaniasis. A clown, a cheeky one or a rascal would be exactly the right nicknames for me, because if you think that I have lost my joy of life due to my terrible past or my disabilities, then you are very much mistaken. Unfortunately, I did not have much luck in my past. I lived as a street dog in Hungary until one day I was hit by a car and simply left behind. Fortunately, Hungarian animal welfare workers found me and brought me to safety and to a veterinarian. Unfortunately, I had serious injuries and they tried to help me as best as they could with the means available. Afterwards, the animal lovers tried to find a good place for me in Germany, but unfortunately there were no interested parties for me. So I spent some months in a kennel in Hungary. Due to the hard ground in the kennel, I unfortunately got many additional painful wounds. However, these times are fortunately far behind me, because in January 2018 the animal shelter Herzsprung became aware of me and I was able to move there right away. I received many more examinations, intensive care and physiotherapy. In addition, I was equipped with a really cool dog wheelchair so that I can move again. Yay! The animal shelter Herzsprung has now become my home and I am doing really well these days. Every day I have a lot of fun with my two-leggers. We play together, cuddle wildly and explore nature happily. With my wheelchair I zoom around like a whirlwind, I like to dig for treasures or take a detour to the lake and splash around. My favorite toy is my Kong filled with great treats. I can occupy myself with it for hours - and playing with it can sometimes get quite wild. Otherwise, I'm always looking out for new adventures, planning funny mischief, making a little nonsense and surprising my two-leggers with some talent.

Inkontinenz verursachen. An Leishmaniose erkrankt. About Shanty

What life with Shanty looks like

Shanty is a senior mixed breed animal waiting at Tierheim Herzsprung.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Shanty far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shanty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shanty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Herzsprung handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shanty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shanty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Herzsprung will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shanty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shanty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Herzsprung early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shanty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
