Sheeba

Akita · Unknown · Adult · 8 years

Meet Sheeba, a beautiful 8 year old girl looking for her perfect home. Sheeba is a loving and affectionate dog who forms incredibly strong bonds with her people. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who wants to be at the heart of family life, Sheeba could be the one for you. Once she knows and trusts you, she loves nothing more than spending time by your side, whether that’s heading out for a walk, relaxing at home, or simply enjoying a quiet evening together. Sheeba is looking for an experienced, adult only home, with no visiting young children, where she can enjoy a calm and predictable lifestyle. She would prefer to be the only pet in the home, as she is happiest when she doesn’t have to share her space with other animals. She is also looking for a home where someone is around for much of the day, as she can become distressed if left alone for long periods. With regular exercise, mental stimulation and a consistent routine, this is something that could be worked on if her new family are prepared to put the time and effort into helping her. Sheeba would love a secure garden with robust 6ft fencing where she can safely enjoy time outdoors to play, explore and sniff. Like many dogs, Sheeba has experienced a lot of change in recent months. She went from living in a spacious home to a third floor flat when family circumstances changed, and the arrival of a young child has understandably left her feeling unsettled. Sheeba prefers to move away from young children rather than interact with them, so she is seeking a child free home where she can feel comfortable and relaxed. Sheeba already knows some of her basic cues, including sit, lie down and giving a paw, and she is very food motivated, making further training both rewarding and fun. She can be strong on the lead and would benefit from continued training and guidance from her new family. When out and about, Sheeba is very interested in other dogs and enjoys watching them, but she can become vocal and bark. Her new owners will need to advocate for her, manage her environment appropriately and continue building her confidence around other dogs. Sheeba can also be worried by fireworks and can find veterinary visits stressful, so positive muzzle training would be beneficial to help her feel more comfortable when handling is required. Some desensitisation work and preparation ahead of fireworks season would also help her feel more settled. Sheeba is looking for a patient and understanding adopter who can offer her the stability, guidance and love she deserves. In return, she will reward you with endless affection, unwavering loyalty and the kind of companionship that only a special dog like Sheeba can give. If you can offer a peaceful, pet free, adult only home and are searching for a devoted best friend, Sheeba would love to meet you. Please complete an adoption form today if you think you could offer Sheeba the loving forever home she deserves.

About Sheeba

What life with Sheeba looks like

Sheeba is a adult akita dog waiting at Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sheeba, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sheeba?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sheeba on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sheeba if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sheeba already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sheeba isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sheeba and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
