Sherkan

German Shepherd · Male · Adult · 4 years

Sherkan – A German German Shepherd is seeking people with patience and understanding. Sherkan is a German German Shepherd who has not been in the Spanish animal shelter for long. Consequently, the caretakers are still at the beginning of getting to know him and learning more about his character. The first period after his arrival apparently did not come easily for him. Understandably, many dogs need time to adjust to the unfamiliar environment, the many noises, and the constantly changing impressions of an animal shelter. However, Sherkan now shows that he is gradually building trust. He enjoys being stroked and is becoming increasingly more relaxed in the company of the people on site. Especially, playing with the ball seems to bring him a lot of joy. Such small insights help in getting to know him piece by piece and understanding his nature better. As a German German Shepherd, Sherkan likely brings some breed-specific traits. German Shepherds are often considered intelligent, eager to learn, and closely bonded to their trusted people. At the same time, they benefit from clear structures, reliable leadership, and a meaningful mental and physical challenge. Since Sherkan has not been in the animal shelter for long, we can currently only make limited statements about his character, his training status, or his past experiences. We will of course update his profile as soon as more information is available. For Sherkan, we wish for people who will give him the time to settle in and build trust. People who understand that a dog from animal control not only needs a new home but also patience, understanding, and the chance to develop at his own pace. Choosing a dog means taking responsibility over many years. Those who give Sherkan this chance might win a loyal and impressive companion who is only waiting to finally settle in. Ideally, we are looking for a home for Sherkan. At this point in time, however, a foster home would also be a great help and a huge improvement for Sherkans life.

About Sherkan

What life with Sherkan looks like

Sherkan is a large adult german shepherd dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sherkan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sherkan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sherkan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sherkan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sherkan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sherkan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sherkan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
