Sherlock

adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Sherlock has found a home! His story: Bistrita, Romania. The sweet Lakritznase Sherlock eagerly waits for his people! Similar to his namesake, Sherlock likes to sniff around everywhere. Unfortunately, he hasn't yet figured out how to escape the dreary shelter life. Sherlock is unfortunately already one of the long-term residents, even though he is such a great guy. Sherlock has a perfect medium size of about 50cm and is thus the ideal companion for any living situation. He has been waiting many long months in the shelter and has always been overlooked 🙁 Sherlock is about 2.5 years old and is a friendly, open, very scruffy, and extremely sweet male dog who draws attention with his speckled coat. The challenging pubertal phase is behind him and he is now in his prime dog years. But even his playful faces make him a real unique. He loves being close to people and is always very happy to see visitors. He could then spend hours being stroked and cuddled. Unfortunately, these moments are far too short in his life… Sherlock gets along great with his fellow animals and also likes to play when given the opportunity. Visually, it could be that Sherlock has a prey drive. We know nothing about Sherlock's past and assume that he has to learn everything anew. Therefore, he is looking forward to people with understanding and patience to teach him the rules of his new life. Sherlock looks forward to active people who can show him more of the world and take him on exciting adventures in nature. Sherlock wants regular contact with his fellow animals and also many cuddles from his family. He would also surely enjoy a visit to a dog training class and activities like mantrailing. Our Sherlock is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea treated. He brings his EU pet passport and can travel after a positive adoption. Will you give Sherlock his ticket to happiness? Many thanks Christine P.! You gave Sherlock his name!

Vielen Dank Christine P.! Du hast Sherlock seinen Namen geschenkt!

About Sherlock

What life with Sherlock looks like

Sherlock is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sherlock, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sherlock?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sherlock on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sherlock if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sherlock already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sherlock isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sherlock and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
