Adopt Sherru

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 15 years

"Sherru" is a large, powerful and confident dog. He was adopted once but unfortunately is back at the shelter. This big breed is looking for an adopter who can handle him on a leash, as he can be very energetic, especially when he meets other dogs. However, he generally walks well on a leash, and knows how to be calm when needed. Very affectionate, "Sherru" loves cuddles and moments of closeness with his human. He is a playful dog who prefers interactions with people rather than with toys. Good guard dog, he could be naturally protective of his home and what he considers his belongings. He is also a great predator for birds, which he hunts relentlessly in the garden. Ideally, "Sherru" would need a spacious house with a securely fenced and enclosed outdoor area where he can expend his energy as he wishes. Daily walks on a leash (or long line depending on the location) will also be necessary for him to continue to develop in different environments. We think he could be able to stay calm when alone. "Sherru" is still young and will need daily physical exercise. At the shelter, he gets along well with other female animals of the same species, but his relationship with males depends on the affinities. "Sherru" is sociable with well-behaved dogs, but he can be reactive with other animals of the same species that are not well-behaved or dominant. He does not like cats at all. A home without other animals would be more suitable for "Sherru". If there are children in the household, we recommend they be older than 15 years. This confident dog knows his worth and is aware of his strength! He will need an expert in the breed or in XXL dogs who will be able to interpret his behavior and meet his needs properly. To start this new life together, a follow-up with a canine trainer will be mandatory after adoption. Loyal and affectionate, "Sherru" is also looking for a new beginning.

About Sherru

What life with Sherru looks like

Sherru is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at SPA de Bordeaux et du Sud-Ouest (SPA 33) in France.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sherru, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sherru?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA de Bordeaux et du Sud-Ouest (SPA 33) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sherru on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sherru if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA de Bordeaux et du Sud-Ouest (SPA 33) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sherru already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sherru isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA de Bordeaux et du Sud-Ouest (SPA 33) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sherru and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
