Shila

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

Shila (born 05/2021) is a female dog about 50 cm tall who has been living with her foster family since March 2025. After a short period of settling in, she has integrated well into the existing pack there and shows every day how much potential she has. Shila is intelligent, attentive, and eager to learn. She wants to get everything right, and once she has formed a good bond, she is very easy to lead. With strangers, she is initially reserved and watchful. Men in particular need a little longer to earn her trust. Once Shila has trusted someone, however, she becomes affectionate and closely attached to her primary caregiver. Force or harsh training unsettles her; she learns best with patience, praise, and calm, clear guidance. This active dog loves long walks and extended exercise. She handles leash walking, car rides, and outings without problems, and her recall already works very well with her foster family. Toys, on the other hand, hardly interest her; her passion is being out and about together with her people. On her foster family's farm, Shila takes on the role of a reliable guardian. Visitors are announced first and initially barked at, but she is easily calmed and settles quickly once they are greeted. She watches her surroundings closely, likes making her own decisions, and needs people who give her security and direction. Shila has a strong prey drive, so cats and other small animals should not live in her new home. She is generally compatible with other dogs, but very small dogs unsettle her. Children should be teenagers and know how to interact calmly and respectfully with dogs. In strong wind or thunderstorms, Shila reacts anxiously and seeks out a sheltered retreat. Otherwise, she enjoys being outdoors and, on warm days, likes to sleep in the garden until evening brings cooler temperatures. For Shila, we are hoping for a house or apartment with a securely fenced garden, ideally in a rural area or on a farm. She is looking for active people experienced with dogs who will give her time to build trust, guide her alertness in the right direction, and enjoy growing together with an intelligent, strong-willed dog. Sporty people will surely enjoy training with Shila and discovering new things together. Get in touch and ask about Shila (include a short description of yourself, your home, and a phone number). Shila will be vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered before adoption, following a positive pre-screening, by the animal welfare association Vierbeiner in Not e.V. Wearing a safety harness is required when collecting the dog. Such a harness (3 straps / 2 belly straps) can be purchased for only 25 euros.

Shila (geb.

About Shila

What life with Shila looks like

Shila is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shila, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shila?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shila on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shila if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Shila already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shila isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shila and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
