Shira

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Shiba Inu mix, female, 55 cm, 19 kg, born January 2025, spayed, location: Debrecen, Hungary, with dogs: unknown, with cats: unknown, house trained: no, participation: 450,- Euro Shira, a lively young female dog, is looking for her forever home. The friendly Shira has had a tough life so far. She lived with her mother and seven siblings in an abandoned house in a village near Debrecen. When the family was finally rescued, Shira was still a puppy. Shira is a friendly, outgoing and people-oriented young dog who unfortunately had to grow up in a shelter. She enjoys the company of people and is happy about attention and shared activities. Her mother is a Shiba Inu, but the paternal side of her breed is unknown. Shira gets along well with other dogs and is also friendly to children. Due to her nature and size, we would like to find a family with children who are more robust (from about 10 years). We currently do not know whether Shira could also live with cats. If you are seriously interested, we would be happy to test this. Shira loves walks and walks well on a leash. She wants to discover the world with her humans, learn new things and catch up on what she missed in her previous life. We wish Shira a loving home with people who give her security and warmth and integrate her as a full member of the family. A securely fenced garden where she can play, relax and enjoy time with her humans would be especially nice for Shira. Now the good side of life should begin for Shira. Shira brings the best conditions with her: a friendly nature, joie de vivre and a lot of love that she wants to give to her future family. Who wants to show Shira how beautiful it is to finally arrive and give her the forever home she is waiting for? PLEASE NOTE: If you are interested in one of our dogs, we first need a self-disclosure from you. You can find the corresponding questionnaire in the respective dog's ad on our website www.tierschutz-pfote.de, which you can fill out online.

About Shira

What life with Shira looks like

Shira is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz-Pfote e.V. in Lohmar.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shira, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shira?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz-Pfote e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shira on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shira if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz-Pfote e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shira already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shira isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz-Pfote e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shira and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
