Adopt Shirak

Mixed Breed · Male

I am a charming indoor cat with many nicknames: Gullungen, Pusen and Tøysekopp! I'm now looking for my forever home with a calm and safe family. I thrive best in a calm family, either without children or with older children (12+) who understand that I sometimes need some peace between the cuddles. I wish to be the only cat in the home. I am a real snuggle cat and love to lie on your lap while being scratched and petted. But my belly? It's mostly for show - it's a sign of trust when I show it, not an invitation to cuddle 😉 I can be carried a little, but it's not exactly my favorite. I am playful and active, especially in the evening! Then I can come up with ideas to run around, "surf" on carpets and hunt anything that moves. Fishing rod is great fun, both in the air, on the floor and inside tunnels. Alone I am entertained with balls. I am also very food motivated (I LOVE food!), which makes me eager to hunt dry food bits that are thrown around - it's the highlight of the day! Maybe I can learn some tricks too? I like to have an overview of what's going on around me, and I'll gladly follow you with my eyes. New people I study from a distance first before deciding to say hello. I can tolerate most things, but the vacuum cleaner... it's a nuisance I prefer to stay away from! I am a well-mannered boy, and I don't sit on tables or chairs, I rarely scratch furniture and leave plants alone (as long as you listen to my signals). I meow little and have a beautiful brown striped fur and big, green eyes.

Men magen min?

About Shirak

What life with Shirak looks like

Shirak is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Dyrebeskyttelsen Oslo in Oslo.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇴Adopting from Norway

Norwegian rescues require thorough background checks. Animals leave with a Nordic pet passport and full vetting. Norway is outside the EU so import rules differ slightly — TRACES applies.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shirak, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shirak?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dyrebeskyttelsen Oslo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shirak on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shirak if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dyrebeskyttelsen Oslo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shirak already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shirak isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dyrebeskyttelsen Oslo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shirak and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NO). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
