Adopt Shiva

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Female · Adult · 8 years

BackgroundThis dog is Shiva. Shiva is an American Staffordshire terrier female dog (22 kg), born in March 2018. She came to us after being seized. Her skin looked bad and we suspect she did not receive the best care. She is recovering well and is looking for a caring home!CharacterShiva is a friendly, people-oriented dog. She does everything to be with you and have nice contact with you. She is kind and friendly and also walks well with you. She ignores most other dogs and knows several cues. She responds well to bench training, but we also notice that she does not like to be alone. She has already spent several days on rest in a foster family. There she behaved excellently. She slept well in the crate, comes gladly to rest close to you and easily makes contact with new people. Also riding in the car is no problem.PlacementFor Shiva we are looking for a home where she does not have to be alone for long periods. Being alone can certainly be built up. Daily walks are definitely recommended for her. She also enjoys that! She is preferably placed in a home as the only dog, because we also do not know her past and she likes to have all the attention for herself. Because of this, we set the limit for children at 12 years old.

AchtergrondDeze meid is Shiva.

About Shiva

What life with Shiva looks like

Shiva is a adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Dierenasiel Sint-Truiden in Sint-Truiden.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shiva, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shiva?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Sint-Truiden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shiva on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shiva if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Sint-Truiden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shiva already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shiva isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Sint-Truiden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shiva and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
