Shiva

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 7 years

At the animal shelter since: April 2026 Estimated age: born around May 2019 Estimated shoulder height: ca. 40 – 59 cm Learn about Shiva directly in the video! Gentle Shiva is waiting for her Forever Family! Shiva was rescued from a Romanian euthanasia station. How the dogs get there and much more are explained in our animal welfare FAQ. Now, the gentle female dog is waiting for the chance to finally move into a safe home. Shiva has a small scar on her nose and a shortened tail, both making her even more unmistakable. At the animal shelter, Shiva shows a very people-oriented and cuddly side. Upon entering the enclosure, she runs excitedly and wagging her tail around her visitors, constantly seeking their proximity. She enjoys being stroked, tucks her ears, and visibly enjoys the attention. When the attention stops, she gently pushes her head under the person’s arm to request a bit more closeness. Currently, Shiva lives with another female dog. The two get along well, interact more quietly with each other, but seek contact with people together and sometimes lie next to each other relaxed. Shiva appears overall friendly, sensitive, and very clingy. We wish people for Shiva who want to give her security, peace, and a lot of closeness. We wish people for her who are aware that animal welfare dogs bring a certain history with them. We can never predict at the animal shelter how a dog will react to life in Germany. That’s why we are looking for people who bring patience, perseverance, and goodwill. Already in love? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are considering adoption, read through the adoption process first. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas, and neutered (exceptions are puppies under 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, feel free to send a message to our placement team.

About Shiva

What life with Shiva looks like

Shiva is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shiva, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shiva?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shiva on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shiva if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shiva already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shiva isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shiva and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
