Shona

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

Shona, born circa 2017, approximately 50 cm shoulder height, with Maria since 09/2026 Shona is a female dog that initially approaches new situations with some reserve. She prefers to observe unfamiliar environments from a distance before taking cautious steps forward. Once she feels secure, her curiosity takes over and she begins to explore her surroundings with interest. She is compatible with other dogs, while there is currently no information about her behavior towards cats. As she is still shy, she is allowed to build trust in humans at her own pace. Currently located in Romania and allowed to leave if a home is found. Travels with a microchip and vaccinations (EU vaccination passport; vaccinations: rabies and basic immunization). All dogs are treated for intestinal and ectoparasites upon arrival at the shelter and at least once a year thereafter. The described behavioral observations are based on everyday life at the shelter and may be different in a domestic environment under changed living conditions. The transport (registered with Traces) will be organized and carried out by us, as far as legally possible for the destination country. Please note the information on this page.

About Shona

What life with Shona looks like

Shona is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Hope for Future e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shona, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shona?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hope for Future e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shona on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shona if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hope for Future e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Shona already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shona isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hope for Future e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shona and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
