Adopt Sidney

Podenco · Male · Young · 2 years

Sidney has developed very well since coming to Melampo. He has opened up significantly and shed many of his fears. His relationship with the volunteer helpers has greatly improved, and he greets the helpers warmly, even asking for cuddles. He enjoys going for walks and has learned to accept the leash. He walks calmly and with very good behavior on the leash, showing attentiveness to sounds. While he does well in some situations, like passing cars, he still needs more work in others. Sidney is social with other dogs. He lives with both male and female dogs and enjoys the run in the large dog group. Sydney shows great interest in people but still doesn’t fully trust them. He walks on the leash but is still unsure and anxious. With other dogs, he is playful and very social. Sidney was found on the approach to the animal shelter Melampo. He was alone and appeared frightened. It took him a few minutes to gain trust from the volunteer, after which he was caught. Sidney is a cheerful dog. He loves playing with the dogs he shares a run with. From the first day, he could run in the large dog group and interact with both female and male dogs. Sidney enjoys playing with toys. He avoids problems with other dogs. With the volunteer helpers, Sidney is cuddly, clingy, and more submissive. After initial skepticism, Sidney quickly built trust with the helpers and seems to feel more secure every day. Sidney has also already gone for walks outside the animal shelter, doing quite well on the leash. The helpers describe Sidney as a playful dog, active and full of energy for his age, but with a calm character. We hope that the right people will soon find Sidney. His loving gaze is hard to resist… Since he may have never lived in a home before, his new owners should take the time to help him adapt to everything new, which requires a lot of patience and understanding. We ask interested parties to familiarize themselves with the Podenco breed (information available on our homepage) to ensure he is rehomed into a suitable home. All the best, Sidney!

Alles Gute Sidney!

About Sidney

What life with Sidney looks like

Sidney is a young adult podenco dog waiting at Melampo in Melampo.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sidney, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sidney?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Melampo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sidney on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sidney if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Melampo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sidney already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sidney isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Melampo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sidney and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
