Adopt Silvestro

Beagle · Male · Senior · 10 years

This dog was also picked up when he was aimlessly wandering around the Campagna near Sassari. He was looking for food and a shelter, as the weather on Sardinia was extremely bad at the time. The dog was not microchipped, and no one had reported him missing. But he probably belongs to the countless dogs who, for various reasons, are "phased out" during hunting season and left somewhere in the Campagna so they can never find their way "home" again... So the dog ended up in the rescue, and on the day he was found, he received the name Silvestro. We met Silvestro during our project tour at the beginning of January 2026. Silvestro seems to be a mix of Jack Russell and Beagle. He is friendly but also very lively, and has a terrier-like independence and self-assurance. As our partner Paola already assessed, he would like to be an individual prince. Even though Silvestro is no longer a young pup, he still shows a lot of temperament and is very active. He is a real small powerhouse. If you love these breeds or their mixes and are familiar with their quirks, you will surely find a great companion in Silvestro. If you are currently looking for a new furry family member and are aware that adoption means not only a lot of joy but also work and great responsibility, we look forward to your message. We facilitate adoptions nationwide.

About Silvestro

What life with Silvestro looks like

Silvestro is a large senior beagle dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Silvestro, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Silvestro?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Silvestro on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Silvestro if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Silvestro already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Silvestro isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Silvestro and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
