Simba

Mixed Breed · Male

Simba arrived as a found animal. The young tomcat had immediately wrapped himself tightly in a blanket on the windowsill upon his arrival and looked at us with huge eyes and pinned ears. We didn't know if he was now gathering all his courage to defend himself through an attack or if he would rather freeze in fear. Surprisingly, his reaction to the first touches was the opposite. It only took a few minutes and the little young tomcat buried his head deeply into the stroking hands and purred contentedly, most likely wanting to crawl into his people. However, as soon as he is alone in his room again, he immediately falls into a shock-like state and buries himself deeply in his blanket. The poor young tomcat simply has terrible fear. It is likely that he has barely gotten to know anything and is simply overwhelmed by all the environmental stimuli. Simba now desperately needs sensitive and loving people who will show him the big wide world step by step and give him a lot of courage. A friendly and sovereign present cat would be a great therapy companion. So far, Simba reacts to the other cats here kindly but rather uninterested. He would certainly tolerate existing cats, but whether a deep friendship will ever develop is currently hard to estimate. Therefore, we can also envision him very well in an already existing, harmonious household with other cats where he can decide for himself how and how intensively he wants to befriend. Of course, under the guidance of understanding, ideally cat-experienced people who will accompany and strengthen him. The sensitive young tomcat would definitely feel comfortable in a pure apartment living situation. A walk should only be in a very quiet, traffic-calmed area, anything else could overwhelm him. Who would like to get to know the special young tomcat and give him a little courage?. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Simba

What life with Simba looks like

Simba is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Drakenburg in Drakenburg.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Simba, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Simba?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Drakenburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Simba on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Simba if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Drakenburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Simba already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Simba isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Drakenburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Simba and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
