Simba

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Simba - a gentle giant with a big heart is looking for an experienced home. Simba is a Mastin mix originally from Spain and has been living with his foster caregiver in Germany for some time now. Once Simba has built trust, he shows himself to be particularly friendly, affectionate, and attached. He loves being scratched, seeks the company of his humans, and enjoys spending time together very much. At the same time, Simba also has some uncertainties: he initially meets strangers with fear, but usually warms up quite quickly during walks. Loud noises such as a vacuum cleaner, loud clapping, or sounds from the neighborhood still unsettle him. Therefore, a calm, structured environment and a secure retreat within the house that he can choose himself are especially important for him. When Simba feels safe and comfortable, he shows his lively side: he likes to chew on objects, sometimes rearranges things, and can be quite creative, especially when he is alone with his dog friend. During play and roughhousing, he is very physical and expresses his joy through pinching and playful "biting." Here he needs people who can set clear, calm, and distinct boundaries. However, Simba does not want to completely give up this exuberant way of playing. Therefore, we wish for Simba a home with dog experience and ideally only older children who know how to handle a large, strong dog and can assert themselves confidently. He loves other dogs above all and really enjoys playing - having an existing, preferably large dog friend would be a dream for him. A large, securely fenced garden in a rural area where it doesn't bother if Simba indulges his passion for digging would be perfect as well. As soon as Simba feels secure, he is watchful and barks when people pass by the property. One special thing you should also know: if he is touched while in deep sleep, it can happen that he growls briefly or snaps into the air. As soon as he is awake, this behavior is immediately over. In daily life, Simba is pleasant: he walks well on a leash and travels without problems in the car. Medically, he is well managed despite leishmaniasis - he receives a purine-free diet as well as allopurinol. More information about leishmaniasis can be found on our information page. An earlier cruciate ligament rupture was successfully operated on. Simba is looking for people with heart, patience, and experience who can offer him security, accept his peculiarities, and want to give him a loving home for the long term. If you get to know this special dog, you will gain a loyal, sensitive companion with great cuddling potential. Contact his adoption officer if you would like to meet Simba.

About Simba

What life with Simba looks like

Simba is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Simba, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Simba?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Simba on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Simba if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Simba already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Simba isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Simba and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
