Adopt Simba

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 14 years

male Abandoned/more secure free run Born in 2012 EKH neutered [x] yes / [] no ________________________ We test each cat with a quick test for FIV ("cat AIDS", info here!) and FeLV ("cat leukemia", info here!) and clarify the status. Here we inform about the risk of an FIP disease ("feline infectious peritonitis"). ________________________ Two years after his Simba is a very people-oriented, self-assured male cat who greatly enjoys attention and spending time with familiar humans. He likes to follow them closely, is very communicative, and is perfect for people who spend a lot of time at home and would be happy to have a sociable, charming companion. Simba also loves being stroked and petted but clearly shows when he has had enough and can react startled when sudden noises surprise him. Simba's special trick: He can open doors (but doesn't try to do it all the time). A big issue with Simba has always been food. He was already overweight when he was first brought to the animal shelter and that hasn't changed over the years. At least, his thick fat layer on his back saved his life during a severe attack he endured! Nonetheless, healthy and balanced nutrition should be monitored. Simba tolerates Sensitive-Pate-wet food best; his digestion was otherwise somewhat unbalanced. Simba had a slightly thickened heart muscle at times, but a check-up at the beginning of the year showed everything was fine, both heart and blood pressure. Due to his age and history, he still receives a small tablet as a beta-blocker once a day and should be presented for another echocardiogram in 2027. With other cats, Simba is rather reserved and can also become moody, so we see him more as a single cat. He was an outdoor cat for a long time, but this isn't a must – he would still like to have a safe balcony or outdoor area. Simba's weight should be controlled by encouraging movement and appropriate feeding. We hope very much that the great, strong, affectionate male cat will find another wonderful home that loves him very much! ________________________ (as of 08.05.2026) Photos from his foster care: Photos from the first animal shelter stay: (Click on images to view full size!) It can always happen that an animal behaves differently or develops differently due to changed circumstances, both here at the animal shelter and in its new home. Tags:. About Simba

What life with Simba looks like

Simba is a senior mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Marburg in Marburg.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Simba, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Simba?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Marburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Simba on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Simba if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Marburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Simba already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Simba isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Marburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Simba and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
