Adopt Sir Didymus

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 4 years

Diddy's Journey This tiny little "dog" was found in August 2022 by regular volunteers. Apparently he had been dumped with 4 others after their owners left the country. He came to us scared and confused. I (Emma) was the first person to take him from the volunteer and it was apparently love at first sight. For both of us. We rescued 100s of dogs but for some reason this little Ratty found himself joining our pack as his permanent home. Most of our resident finca dogs are here because they are old, sick, unwanted or complicated. But this little thing sneaked his way in with his cocky attitude and needy ways. As he was so scared when he arrived he latched on immediately as my shadow. It was impossible to even go to the toilet without him. I stood on him multiple times a day and woke up with him asleep on my neck every night. This is where he spent every night whilst recovering from his castration. Planning to be up for adoption as soon as he was recovered. However, now this is where his permanent spot is as I can't imagine to have his pillow empty now. I had loosely planned to adopt another personal dog at some point to go on long walks or swimming with. A tiny cat-dog was not the plan! However the heart does what the heart does for both of us and we are very happy to have welcomed him to the finca family. Luckily Iggy loves him and welcomes him in our mini pack.

About Sir Didymus

What life with Sir Didymus looks like

Sir Didymus is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tenerife Animal Sanctuary in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sir Didymus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sir Didymus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tenerife Animal Sanctuary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sir Didymus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sir Didymus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tenerife Animal Sanctuary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sir Didymus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sir Didymus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tenerife Animal Sanctuary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sir Didymus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
