Sisamakis

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Male dog Sisamakis, born around March 2025, shoulder height approximately 50 cm, weighing about 17 kilograms—kennel urgently needed. Sisamakis, born around March 2025, is a very special young male dog full of zest for life. He’s a dog who quickly spreads good cheer and instantly puts a smile on your face with his cheerful demeanor. He’s incredibly people-oriented, open-minded, and simply adorable. He loves attention and closeness and greets his humans with genuine enthusiasm. When you approach him, he wags his entire body with joy. However, his past wasn’t easy. He was found with a broken front leg that unfortunately wasn’t properly treated at first, resulting in an improperly healed fracture. As a result, his right front leg is now visibly crooked and “different” from the others. Despite this, Sisamakis seems to be coping well with it at the moment and hasn’t let it dampen his joyful spirit. Sisamakis would love to have his humans all to himself and prefers a home without other dogs. In general, he gets along best with female dogs; with many male dogs, he tends to be more dominant or boisterous—though of course there are individual exceptions if there’s mutual sympathy. Moreover, like every young dog, Sisamakis is still at the very beginning of his journey. He has much to learn—everything a confident family dog should know: relaxed leash walks, calmness in everyday life, appropriate behavior in new situations, and generally the entire “dog ABC.” New stimuli and unfamiliar situations can initially make him feel insecure or overwhelmed. That’s why he’s looking for people who will guide him step by step into family life with patience, understanding, and loving consistency. Sisamakis is seeking people who aren’t bothered by his special leg but instead see the wonderful dog beneath it—the one who’s open, affectionate, and full of fun. People who enjoy having an open, loving, and playful companion and who can offer him the stability and security he truly deserves. He’s a happy fellow who’s ready to finally settle down—to people who’ll love him exactly as he is. We do not place dogs in highly urban residential areas or in families with small children. Please only submit an adoption inquiry if taking him on is possible at the time specified in the text and if you’ve already discussed welcoming a new family member with your household (including any other involved parties such as employers, landlords, or temporary caregivers). Please note that the dogs described here are currently staying at their foster care facility or animal shelter in a limited, secure environment with little contact with other people or environmental stimuli outside the property. The descriptions are based on their behavior in this familiar setting. In particular, puppies and young dogs are still developing their personalities. For a successful adjustment to a new home, they need time, patience, and loving guidance to get used to their new surroundings and various stimuli—and to grow into confident dogs.

About Sisamakis

What life with Sisamakis looks like

Sisamakis is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sisamakis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sisamakis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sisamakis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sisamakis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sisamakis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sisamakis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sisamakis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
