Adopt Skipers

Male · Adult · 7 years

A medium-sized black-brown mongrel dog named Skipers came to the shelter after his owner's death. Previously a beloved and well-cared-for dog, he lived in an apartment, was used to walking on a leash, is moderately active, kind, and playful. Now, as we slowly get to know Skiperu better, we are looking for homes where adults without small children live on a daily basis. Why with this restriction? The shelter dog behaves "interestingly": if we approach the crate, he growls, showing his teeth and seemingly scaring, saying, don't come near me. However, ignoring this warning and entering the dog's space, he becomes a cheerful affection. Because of these growling behaviors, we do not recommend small children in his new life - the dog remains a dog. Otherwise, Skipers would be ideal for active people in their middle age: walks together, evenings, love, and sincere friendship. Skipers is below average height, about 16 kg of enthusiasm.

Līdz vidēja auguma melnbrūnais suņvīrelis Skipers patversmē nonāca pēc īpašnieka nāves. Iepriekš bijis mīlēts un lolots suns, dzīvojis dzīvoklī, pieprot iet pavadā, ir mēreni aktīvs, draisks, rotaļīgs. Šobrīd palēnām Skiperu iepazīstot kārtīgāk, viņam apkārtlūkojam pēc mājām, kurās dzīvo pieauguši ļaudis bez maziem bērniem ikdienā. Kāpēc ar šādu ierobežojumu? Patversmē suns uzvedas “interesanti”: ja pieiesim pie voljera, rūks, zobus spīdinot un it kā biedējot, sak, netuvojies man.

About Skipers

What life with Skipers looks like

Skipers is a adult dog waiting at Labās Mājas in Riga.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇱🇻Adopting from Latvia

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Skipers, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Skipers?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Labās Mājas handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Skipers on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Skipers if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Labās Mājas will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Skipers already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Skipers isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Labās Mājas early rather than rehoming privately; they know Skipers and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
