Skipy, a Quarter mare, is actually named Skips W. Surprise and was rescued from slaughter in 2016 at the age of 14 in a dramatic action by her caregiver Miriam. However, at a high price. Overpriced purchases are not really about animal welfare, as the dealers immediately buy other horses with the money. Miriam was aware of this, but sometimes emotions are too strong, as she was very attached to Skipy. As a student, she could not afford the maintenance and treatment for the sick horse. Skipy had a severe navicular syndrome at the time. Without shoeing, she could not walk. Today, thanks to intensive hoof work, she can go without shoes and has no pain as long as she has enough space when turning and her hooves are rasped in very short intervals to maintain the position. The strong-willed Quarter mare is now at home in Niederkrüchten on the Lower Rhine, has an older mare for company, and her caregiver Steffi takes care of her selflessly. Miriam and her parents have taken a sponsorship for Skipy, but alone her pension costs amount to €280 per month. Unfortunately, Skipy also needs the veterinarian from time to time, as she tends to colic in the cold season. Therefore, further sponsors are urgently needed so that she can continue to enjoy her retirement life...

Die Quarterstute Skipy heißt eigentlich Skips W. Surprise und wurde 2016 im Alter von 14 Jahren in einer dramatischen Aktion von ihrer Pflegebeteiligung Miriam vor der Schlachtung gerettet. Allerdings für einen zu hohen Preis. Überteuerte Freikäufe haben eigentlich nichts mit Tierschutz zu tun, denn die Händler kaufen von dem Geld ja sofort andere Pferde. Das war Miriam auch bewusst, aber manchmal sind die Emotionen einfach zu stark, Miriam hing nämlich sehr an Skipy. Als Studentin konnte sie sich aber den Unterhalt und die Behandlung für das kranke Pferd nicht leisten. Skipy hatte damals eine hochgradige Hufrollenentzündung. Ohne Beschlag konnte sie nicht laufen. Heute kommt sie dank intensiver Hufbearbeitung ohne Beschlag aus und hat keine Schmerzen, solange sie beim Wenden genug Platz hat und ihre Hufe in ganz kurzen Abständen immer wieder geraspelt werden, damit die Stellung gleich bleibt. Die charakterstarke Quarterstute ist heute in Niederkrüchten am Niederrhein zu Hause, hat eine auch ältere Stute zur Gesellschaft und ihre Betreuerin Steffi kümmert sich aufopfernd. Miriam und ihre Eltern haben eine Patenschaft für Skipy übernommen, aber allein ihre Pensionskosten schlagen mit monatlich 280 € zu Buche. Und leider braucht Skipy des öfteren auch den Tierarzt, in der kalten Jahreszeit neigt sie nämlich schon mal zu Koliken. Deshalb werden weitere Paten dringend gesucht, damit sie weiterhin ihr Renterleben genießen kann….
