Snookie

German Shepherd · Female · Senior · 9 years

Snookie has had a difficult life. Her owner passed away suddenly, and the retirement home where she accompanied her owner was not a good fit for her. She is a very kind dog, accepting of strangers and well-behaved, although she is not a trained dog that masters multiple commands. She walks easily on a leash, although she remains powerful, and loves to explore everywhere. She is a potential water lover: she loves the water in her pool and her favorite activity is to empty her water bowl to cool her paw! She is wise and does not bark. In terms of compatibility, she may adapt to living with a dog, but she will likely do better without a companion: she has lived her whole life as the center of her family's attention, and it is difficult, at her age, to change her habits. Cats are not an option. In terms of health, there are no apparent problems. She is a grandmother who needs a new lease on life, a new balance: her world has just collapsed, but she still has a lot to live and give.

About Snookie

What life with Snookie looks like

Snookie is a senior german shepherd dog waiting at SPA Grillon in France.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Snookie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Snookie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA Grillon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Snookie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Snookie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA Grillon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Snookie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Snookie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA Grillon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Snookie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
