Bad Spencer

Doberman · Male · Young · 2 years

Character & Nature: Spencer, a raw diamond with some catch-up needed, came to us as a found animal – likely his original family was simply overwhelmed by the energy bundle. At his core, he is a magnificent, lively male dog who loves people above all else. He is outgoing, clingy, and actively seeks contact. As a Dobermann-German Shepherd mix, however, he is a “all or nothing” type: he is curious, brave, and easily gets excited, but is also extremely sensitive to stimuli. The animal shelter environment stresses him greatly: he barks a lot when his trusted people are not with him, indicating that the process of getting used to being alone in the new home must be built up very gradually. Training & Construction Sites: Spencer tends to act impulsively, recklessly, and sometimes thoughtlessly. He is easily distracted and finds it hard to follow precise instructions, as he likes to “discuss” and assert his own interests. He tends to want to control his environment and finds it hard to settle into calm. Despite his agility, he is quickly overwhelmed and overexcited, processes stress slowly, and then finds poor solutions. Spencer loves firm routines and schedules over everything. Deviations from them can stress him out. He handles frustration poorly, shows quick bursts of action, and can block out new things or exercises. In contact with fellow animals, Spencer mirrors his counterpart. With friendly dogs, he is open; in conflicts, he stubbornly sticks to his position, forgives negative behavior slowly, and points out boundary crossings to others. Therefore, clear leadership is indispensable. We are looking for dog-experienced people with structural strength who can offer Spencer the necessary sovereignty and loving consequences. He needs clear leadership that guides his impulsivity and helps him experience the world with less excitement. Spencer is ready to buckle down and become a loyal lifelong partner. He simply needs someone to tell him: “I take care of this – you can relax.” Send us an email with the fully completed interested party application form if you are interested in one of our animals, or contact us via our contact form for questions. Please provide a callback number. Please do not come without an appointment!

About Bad Spencer

What life with Bad Spencer looks like

Bad Spencer is a extra-large young adult doberman dog waiting at Tierheim Oelzschau in Oelzschau.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bad Spencer, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bad Spencer?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Oelzschau handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bad Spencer on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bad Spencer if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Oelzschau will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bad Spencer already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bad Spencer isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Oelzschau early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bad Spencer and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
