Sombra

Female · Kitten

Description Sombra is a stray cat that used to survive by eating the scraps she could find in a trash container every night. There, she met a boy who began feeding her every night until one day, she stopped coming. After some time, Sombra reappeared with a visibly deteriorated appearance, so the boy didn’t hesitate and took her to a veterinary clinic. There, she was attended to in everything she needed, and when she was fully recovered, the boy wrote to us requesting a spot for her at the animal shelter because she had tested positive for VIF. At the beginning of her stay in the facility, Sombra was scared and barely visible, but with the passing of days, she discovered that she was in a safe place where she could find water and food without a problem, they gave her cans daily, and neither humans nor cats bothered her, but rather, everyone gave her space to decide the right moment to socialize with the others. Now, after a couple of months, Sombra is one of the cats in the facility. She walks around freely without hiding, basks in the sun, plays with the other feline companions, and goes out to claim her pâté dish as soon as the volunteers arrive. It’s true that she doesn’t let anyone touch her, but she has evolved and socialized so well in such a short time that who knows what could happen next? If you want to give the opportunity to a needy cat to experience what it’s like to live in a home, don’t hesitate to think about Sombra: a black and positive cat that will face many challenges due to the prejudices humans have.

About Sombra

What life with Sombra looks like

Sombra is a puppy/kitten cat waiting at Keywords in Spain.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sombra, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sombra?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Keywords handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sombra on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sombra if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Keywords will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sombra already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sombra isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Keywords early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sombra and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
