Sonia

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 7 years

Sonia is about a 7-year-old female dog of mixed breed, medium-sized. So far, she lived in a house and was very attached to her owner. A change in her life situation caused her to come under our care, which is a huge challenge for her. The female dog is a dog strongly bonded with people - the separation from her caregiver greatly affected her. When her owner disappeared for a few days, Sonia did not cope well, she got sick from loneliness and clearly experiences the lack of a close person. She may show separation anxiety. Sonia is a reactive and anxious dog. She is afraid of, among other things, bicycles, scooters and noise - in such situations, she reacts with fear and an attempt to escape. She is distrustful of strangers, especially men. She does not like other dogs, but tolerates cats.

Sonia to około 7-letnia sunia w typie mieszańca, średniej wielkości.

About Sonia

What life with Sonia looks like

Sonia is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Wrocław in Wrocław.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Separation anxiety, reactive and fearful behavior, fear of bikes, scooters, and loud noises, distrustful of strangers especially men

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sonia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sonia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Wrocław handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sonia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sonia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Wrocław will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sonia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sonia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Wrocław early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sonia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
