Sophie

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Sophie’s beautiful brown eyes still look somewhat uncertain at the world. Who could blame her? Taken out of her kennel to take some photos, a leash is put on her, she is touched and petted. All of this for the first time in her little dog life. She patiently endures this procedure. It’s for her own good. She was four months old when she had to find quarters at the animal shelter, suddenly one among 2,500 dogs in a kennel. 2,500 that nobody misses, nobody loves, nobody sees. Or do they? Perhaps you, dear animal lover, might be just the person who takes a closer look? The person who notices Sophie’s loving eyes, feels her soft, dense coat, sees her delicate figure, and is touched by her nature? Maybe you are exactly the kind of person who feels the potential that lies within this young female dog if only given a chance? Sophie is one of those dogs you want to hug right away, tell her: “Everything will be alright now, my darling. Forget what was. We can do this together.” Could you imagine giving Sophie a home right now, making space for her in your life? From reading Sophie’s story, you can understand that the puppy hasn’t had a chance to learn much yet. So, you should know that with Sophie, you’ll have to go through the basics of doggy arithmetic step by step. Good dog training classes can be very helpful after an adjustment period. Sometimes the steps will be small, sometimes larger, but then it can only move forward, right, little Sophie? A friendly canine companion in her new home wouldn’t be a problem, rather an enrichment, as Sophie lives with many dogs in the kennel and always behaves defensively and friendly. Sophie will respond to your patience with trust. To your care with love. Give Sophie time and space, and she can gradually unfold, show what a loving companion she can be. Sophie’s fosterer looks forward to your call (please during the day) or an email. She will reliably advise and support you on your way to a potential adoption. © 2006-2024 by animal welfare association Europa e.V.

Vergiss, was war. © 2006-2024 by Tierschutzverein Europa e.V. - All rights reserved

About Sophie

What life with Sophie looks like

Sophie is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sophie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sophie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sophie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sophie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sophie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sophie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sophie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
