adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Spencer has found its own home! His story: Spencer was able to move to a foster home in Munich in mid-March. He originally came from Baia Mare, Romania. Together with his siblings Carlotta and Arthur, he arrived as a puppy in the shelter, but he was the only one who stayed. Spencer has unfortunately been waiting since he was three months old. Thus, he has spent his entire puppyhood only in the yard! In his foster home, he does great, currently he lives in the city center, where he is doing well and despite having spent his entire life in a confined space, separated from any impressions. We wish Spencer a home on the outskirts of town or in a quiet neighborhood. He makes a great effort in every situation, even though he still sometimes has fear, he always orientates himself towards humans and seeks support there. He already walks well on a leash and is always open to his fellow animals, but he can also already walk properly. Whether big, small, girl, or boy, he is always friendly. Spencer already knows how to handle cats, here he shows himself to be reserved and friendly. Children should know responsible dog handling and be a bit older, as he is sometimes greeted with a bit of roughness. Spencer got to sniff a happy dog life, now just one thing is missing: the right family! Spencer is simply great. He is now almost three years old, 60 cm, and 23 kg. Our Spencer is a very nice, sweet, young, playful, and clumsy dog. He enjoys all the cuddles he can get and would like to lie on the sunbather all day in his garden or on the terrace. Although Spencer is no longer a puppy, he has not yet experienced much in life and has the opportunity to learn. Therefore, he is sure to be happy about a visit to a positively working dog training class with his people, to explore the world together confidently. Spencer is like a grown-up puppy and explores his world in the same way. Spencer knows life in a home, travels by car, and comes to rest very well. He accepts boundaries and fits into everyday life very well. The fact that he stays alone still gives him some trouble, but that will certainly improve with some targeted training over time. He is diligently trained on basic commands, and treats are his best friend. Therefore, we are looking for people who can patiently explain the entire dog alphabet to him and familiarize themselves with the characteristics of a herding dog. Spencer is looking for people with a lot of love, understanding, and patience! Spencer ties himself very strongly to his trusted people and builds great trust with them, strangers still make him a little afraid, but he also does great. German Shepherds can have the following traits: intelligence, learnability, but also a protective instinct and territorial behavior. Spencer is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He will bring his EU pet passport with him after a positive assessment. Many thanks to Ulli Z.! You have given Spencer a name and thus an identity! Date: 19.05.

Vielen Dank an Ulli Z.! Stand: 19.05.2024

About Spencer

What life with Spencer looks like

Spencer is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Spencer, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Spencer?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Spencer on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Spencer if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Spencer already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Spencer isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Spencer and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
